Straight Outta Gallifrey Ep 9 – Think You’ve Seen It All is now available to download. Check it out here. This time, Sunseahl and Mike are joined by Steve to talk about all things Whovian. We discuss the latest News, Rumors, and Gossip including the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff and the announcement of the Doctor’s newest companion, Bill as played by Pearl Mackie. Don’t miss out on the fun in this episode of Straight Outta Gallifrey.

Sunseahl kicks off this week’s show. Steve still hates Dale.

Mike has been making slow progress on his story for the Doctor Who Project. He doesn’t think they will use the story, but he likes it enough to work on it on his own. Steve has been working, podcasting, and watching Doctor Who. He’s been rewatching the first season of Nu-Who. He blames us for making him rewatch Doctor Who. Since they are on hiatus, we have to wait until Christmas before we get any more episodes. Sunseahl has been watching the news and trying to keep track of all of the various fan theories revolving around this week’s big big news. More on that later.

Last time they discussed the idea of American Doctor Who, well Mike tracked down the complete list. He goes through the list and they comment on them together, pointing out some of the roles they were in that people may identify them from if they didn’t know who they were. Burgess Meredith, Dick Van Dyke, Vincent Price, Gene Wilder, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, Nicholas Cage, Bryan Cranston, and Harrison Ford are some of the more notable American actors that made the list. We offer some alternatives. Which American Actors would make your list?

They talk about the Doctor Who Experience next. It’s in Cardiff. They have several versions of the TARDIS you can walk through. There is a costume museum as well as performers in costume. There are also walking tours where you can see where episodes of Doctor Who were filmed. If any of our listeners are in the Cardiff area and are able to attend the Doctor Experience, we want to hear from you. Drop us an email or leave us a voice mail and tell us all about it.

They move onto the big news that debuted this week. The Doctor has a new companion. Her name is Bill and she will be played by Pearl Mackie. Mackie is a theater actress and doesn’t have many film credits to her name. We are confident that that will change with her run on Doctor Who. Mike liked her right off the bat. She reminded him of several different companions mixed together but in a good way. The BBC released a scene with her and Capaldi together as an introduction to her character.

There’s a debate about whether the clip was from a future show or just an stand-alone skit. Steve points out that IMDB states that it will be part of the Christmas episode. The tweet Mike saw from the BBCDoctorWho described it as a scene from a future episode. Sun talks about some of the previous shorts that the Doctor has done over the years. It could very well be a short.

Sun has been watching the fan drama that has erupted around the clip. Some people were complaining that her name is Bill. They thought that she was supposed to be a replacement for Rose who was played by Billie Piper. Mike’s first impression was that she was very Rose-like, but he also saw some of the other companions in her performance. Sun agrees and points out that her outfit seems to be from the 90s. Steve wants to talk about the setting of the scene. He thinks if it’s underground or on a spaceship. It doesn’t lend to any particular time period and hopes that they will follow Classic Who and the character will have originated from another time, or another planet of humans. We discuss some possibilities. They like the idea of an outsider as a companion.

Sun thinks Bill reminds her of Dave Lister from Red Dwarf. She talks about Red Dwarf and why she thought that of Bill. They are looking forward to December, when the Doctor returns with a new episode just in time for Christmas.

Steve wants to talk about Companions before winding down the show. He wants to know who their best companion is. Mike talks about his friend Nick who loves Amy Pond so much that he has the restraining order to prove it. Mike’s first companion was Rose, but there’s something about Donna that appealed to him. Steve doesn’t like Katherine Tate and didn’t like Donna because of it. But, Mike really liked Clara because she came across as the Doctor’s equal in many ways. Sun’s favorite companion is Adrick. She loves him for the same reason that she loves Wesley. For Steve, Ace was his favorite companion from Classic Who. On Nu-Who, Rose was his favorite until Clara came along. They discuss their choices as well as some of their other companions including Amy. They also discuss some part-time (guest) Companions including Captain Jack and River.

The conversation shifts towards the tragic with some of the tragedies that former companions have had to deal with through out their runs and even at the conclusion of their time with the Doctor. Mike thanks Steve for bringing the conversation down.

They start winding down the show. Dale the Dalek needs email. So tell us about your comments, suggestions, ideas, or if you’ve been to The Doctor Who Experience. We want to hear from you. Send us an email to tardistalk@straightouttagallifrey.com.

Mike Medeiros is a great storyteller in his own mind. He’s been known to put words to page and sometimes, he even turns them into audio stories for himself, his friends and the occasional stranger that stumbles upon his stuff by accident. He has written, writes, and will write for Gates of Sto’vo’kor, Blood of the Neirrh, Star Trek: Starfinder, The Klingons of Long Island, Reality’s Edge, and Zygerus. Some of his stories and other writings have materialized on websites and forums for the G & T Show, Priority One, ScienceFiction.com, Star Trek Online, and even Star Trek.com. He’s written a few playable missions for Star Trek Online and has even had a couple of them spotlighted. He keeps saying he’s working on a novel, but is he really? A comic book is more likely. If only he could make money flinging ink at the screen, he’d be a happy camper.

But, wait. There’s more.

He is the co-owner of Busy Little Beaver Productions and is the producer and co-host for G & T Show and Gates of Sto’vo’kor. He’s directed voice actors, and produced and edited audio podcasts and dramas because he doesn’t have the face for video. He plays well with others and is always on the look out for the next project, the next thing, the next next. If he wasn’t working on something with a half dozen other projects waiting in the wings, somebody please check to make sure he’s still breathing.

During the day, he’s a mild-mannered computer repair man who dabbles in web design in his small, rural, Central California community. He lives with his lovingly dysfunctional family and loyal canine companion and spends most of his time in the closet concocting some hair-brained scheme or another. He’s got an unhealthy obsession with Lego video games, Klingons, and Star Trek Online that borders on the neurotic.

Despite all this, he still finds the time to write the words. Find out what he's doing here.
